The Concealed Handgun Manual: How to Choose, Carry, and Shoot a Gun in Self Defense (Concealed Handgun Manual: How to Choose, Carry, & Shoot a Gun in Self Defense)

Intended to provide instruction on using handguns to prevent gun owners from becoming the victims of a criminal or terrorist attack, this comprehensive handbook contains information on current state regulations, beginning and advanced shooting instruction, updated safety information, and accounts of incidents of concealed handgun self-defense. Advice for selecting and buying a handgun, discussions of the importance of self-protection, and methods of concealing weapons accompany a discussion of the mental attitude required in case of an armed encounter, and advice on how to avoid violent encounters entirely. Including the new concealed carry laws recently passed in Kansas and Nebraska, this updated edition provides a new context for the need to safely carry a weapon since the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the breakdown of adequate law enforcement that ensued. In addition to providing an updated list of handguns suitable for concealed carry, this practical guide also includes more information about the psychological ramifications of using deadly force against another human being.

"Carrying a deadly weapon is too serious a matter to go unstudied. Chris Bird's work serves as a fine textbook for those who have made, or are considering making, that commitment." —Will Cox, Gun Week

"Outstanding . . . a really good book for someone who is not sure if they want to carry. It definitely fills a need." —Jerry Patterson, former state senator of Texas, sponsor of the Texas Concealed Carry Law

"Bird teaches through illustrative stories of self-defense and survival experienced by moms, laboratory workers, electricians, and other everyday people who learned, sometimes the hard way, the value of the self-defense handgun." —Gila Hayes, Women & Guns magazine

    The Concealed Handgun Manual5
I had read an earlier version of this book and was very pleased with this new version. I highly recommend it for anyone thinking about applying for a concealed handgun permit. It is full of good information to help you make up your mind if you have what it takes to carry and possibly use a handgun safely to defend yourself or your family or not.

Simply outstanding - a must own for gun owners!5
This book was recommended to me by my instructor for my CHL (concealed handgun license). I'm extremely glad that I read this book. The information is invaluable for someone that has decided to own a handgun and potentially carry concealed. This book provides specific and detailed information about virtually every facet of owning and carrying a handgun. The stories are particularly insightful as they demonstrate the importance of knowing the laws and your rights plus the challenges of actually defending yourself.

If you own a handgun or are looking to own one, you MUST read this book!

This Book Should Be Required Reading For All CCW Permit Holders, and Everyone Else Too!5
I really don't have that much more to offer from those reviewers who have already reviewed this book, although I would like to say that this book is so well done that it should be required reading for any and all individuals, regardless of where they live, who are applying for a CCW (concealed carry weapons) permit. The information in this book is first rate and, for the most part, right on the money.

On an entirely personal note, people must realize that guns, in and of themselves, do not take lives, nor do they save them. That is the sole responsibility of the individual utilizing a gun at the time. Remember, a gun is nothing more than a tool that only sits there doing absolutely nothing, until it is interacted with by a human being. GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE!
